Sharkey Burke grew up in Clarksdale, Mississippi, before moving to Jackson to attend Millsaps College. He began practicing law in 1996 after graduating from Mississippi College School of Law. He represents business owners, insurance companies, and employers of all sizes in workers’ compensation and insurance defense litigation.
Sharkey’s work is anchored in his personal motivation: “to do my best to represent my client and glorify God.” In a profession filled with constant disputes and conflict (often all day, every day), Sharkey is intentional about leading with respect and calm professionalism, knowing that steady communication and level-headed judgment serve clients far better than confrontation for its own sake.
He approaches every matter with the perspective that while he cannot change the facts or rewrite the law, he can always outwork the other side—a principle that has guided him through a successful career spanning nearly three decades. That work ethic is matched by his genuine satisfaction in helping clients move claims toward timely, efficient, and satisfactory resolution.
Sharkey also believes it’s essential for clients to feel confident in the representation. For him, the key is to ensure these relationships are grounded in trust, communication, and transparency. Sharkey makes it a priority to be approachable and forthright so that his clients know they can reach him, ask questions, and receive honest guidance.
Outside the office, Sharkey enjoys spending time with his wife and four children, and you’ll often find him hunting, fishing, or golfing. Few people know he can also sing, though he’s quick to clarify he’s not quitting his day job for a music career. And if he weren’t practicing law, he’d happily be in a kitchen as a chef running his own restaurant.
